2022-2023 Team

Jenny Li, President

Jenny is a senior at Wellesley High School in Massachusetts. In prior years, she served as the AGHS Tournament Director and Promotion Head. Jenny learned Go in China, and she is currently rated AGA 2D and Chinese 5D. She won first in the 2018 Boston Youth Go Tournament and second in the 2020 New York Youth Open and Boston Youth Go Tournament. Jenny also founded the first Go class at her local Chinese school, and her students have now gained a passion for Go. Besides playing Go, Jenny enjoys drawing, sailing, and playing tennis.

Patrick Zhao, Vice President

Patrick is a senior at Jericho High School in New York and has played Go since he was five. Currently ranked as an AGA 3D, Patrick has participated in various tournaments, like winning the North American Kyu Championships in 2016 and attending five Go Congresses. Previously serving as the AGHS Treasurer, Patrick has served three years as an NYGHS officer. Besides Go, Patrick is an avid athlete, programmer, and soccer player.

Ansheng Zhou, Design Manager

Ansheng is a freshman at Lakefield College School in Canada. She has only played Go for two years but has already developed a strong passion for it. She enjoys the challenge of Go problems, especially when she comes up with strategic moves after spending hours thinking. As she becomes a stronger player, she sees the connection between making moves in a game and making life choices, such as the necessary sacrifices needed for a victory. Currently, she runs a Go club at her school. Outside of Go, she is passionate about drawing, painting, and music.

Kosuke Sato, Secretary

Kosuke Sato is a junior at Northwood High School in Irvine, California. He started playing Go while attending second grade in China and is currently AGA and Chinese 5D. Kosuke has participated in tournaments like the Cotsen Open and South California Go Championship. He also won the dan section of the 2019 Cotsen Open. Furthermore, he won 2nd place in the 5 dan section of the U.S. Go Congress in 2022. Outside of Go, he likes math, tennis, and computer science.

Jamie Tang, Website Manager

Jamie Tang is a junior at Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She has been playing Go for three years and is currently AGA 4K. Jamie has competed in Go tournaments in the U.S. and Singapore. In 9th grade, she co-founded a Go club at her previous school, which welcomed ten new players. Outside of Go, she enjoys cooking vegan dishes, working at Asian-owned restaurants, and reporting for her school paper.

Kevin Yang, Tournament Director

Kevin is a junior at Chaparral High School in Temecula, California. He has been playing Go for six years and is ranked 1P and AGA 7 dan. Kevin has played in the Globis Cup, Transatlantic Go League, and the 2022 NAGF Pro Qualification Tournament. He placed in the top eight in the Globis Cup, 2nd in the Transatlantic Go League, and 1st in the NAGF Pro Qualification Tournament, making him the 6th North American Pro. Kevin placed first in the open sections of the 2021 California Go Championship and the 2022 Gotham Tournament. Besides competing, he teaches at his school Go club and the San Diego Go Club. Aside from Go, Kevin enjoys piano, basketball, programming, and listening to music.

Liya Luk, Treasurer

Liya Luk is a junior at Jamesville Dewitt High School in Syracuse, New York. She is currently AGA 1D and Chinese 4D. In 2022, Liya placed second in the Women’s Tournament at the U.S. Go Congress and won the senior division of the National Kyu Championships. She also volunteers at local Go club tournaments and events. Outside of Go, she enjoys water sports, music, and traveling.

Opal Ao, Media Marketing Manager

Opal Ao is an 8th grader attending Gentry Middle School in Colombia, Missouri. She has been playing Go since kindergarten. She played in the women’s tournament in the U.S. Go Congress in 2022. She enjoyed the Go Congress and meeting new people to play Go. She also started a Go club at school. Besides Go, she loves to record her life on social media like Instagram, Snapchat, and WeChat.

Steve Zhang, Tournament Director

Steve Zhang is a sophomore at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Oregon.
