Meet the Team

Jamie Tang, President

Qi-Mei Jamie Tang is a senior at Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her aunts introduced her to Go with “Hikaru no Go” in 2019. She is now the American Collegiate Go Association’s Co-founder and Evanston Go Club’s Outreach Director. She co-organized the 2023 Chicago Rapid, featured in The Daily Northwestern, which drew 123 competitors from 15 states. She is the 2023 recipient of the American Go Foundation College Scholarship. An AGA 2K player, she won the top youth division of the 2023 New York State Championship. Outside of Go, she manages her school’s nationally award-winning publication.

Liya Luk, Vice President

Liya Luk is a senior at Jamesville Dewitt High School in Syracuse, New York. She is currently AGA 1D and Chinese 4D. In 2022, Liya won the senior division of the National Kyu Championships. At the 2023 US Go Congress, Liya won the US Amateur Pair Go Qualifiers and will go on to represent team USA at the IAPGC with her partner. She also volunteers at local Go Club tournaments and events. Outside of Go, she enjoys swimming, music, and traveling.

Kevin Yang, Vice President

Kevin Yang is a senior at Chaparral High School in Temecula, California. He has played Go for seven years and is ranked 1P and AGA 7D. Kevin has played in the Top 64 of the 5th MLILY Cup, GLOBIS Cup, Transatlantic Go League, and the 2022 NAGF Pro Qualification Tournament. He placed in the top eight in the 2022 GLOBIS Cup, 2nd in the Transatlantic Go League, and 1st in the NAGF Pro Qualification Tournament, making him the 6th North American Pro. Kevin also placed first in the Open Sections of the 2021 California Go Championship and the 2022 Gotham Tournament. Besides competing, he teaches at his school Go club and the San Diego Go Club. Aside from Go, Kevin enjoys piano, basketball, tennis, programming, and listening to music.

Secretary, Xiayang Huang

Xiayang Huang is a sophomore at Hunter College High School in New York City. He’s played Go on and off since he was a kid and is currently around 1K in strength. He’s excited to help spread Go across the US as a member of the AGHS. When he’s not playing Go or organizing his school’s Go club, Xiayang enjoys eating good food and traveling.

Treasurer, Regina Kim

Regina Kim is a sophomore in Leonia High School in New Jersey. She has been learning Go for 4 years, and she attended several U.S Go Congress and tournaments. Regina won 1st place in her division in the Women’s Tournament at the 2023 US Go Congress and 3rd place in her division in 2022 US Go Congress. She loves learning Go. She shares her enthusiasm by teaching Go at her local library and establishing a Go club at her high school. Outside of Go, she enjoys golfing, skiing, playing the flute, and traveling.

Julia Zhang, Media Marketing Manager

Julia (Yuqing) Zhang is a senior at Meadowridge School in Vancouver, BC, Canada, ranked CGA 2D. In recent years, Julia won 2nd Place in the AGA Girls Cup and 3rd Place in both the New York Youth Open and the North American Youth Open (Division A). As the Canada Pair Go Qualifiers champion for three consecutive years, she represented team Canada in the IAPGC. With a strong tie to her Go community, she co-directed and welcomed 140 players to the 2023 Canadian Go Open, the largest in history. Outside of Go, she enjoys playing piano, reading, and skiing.

Kylie Xu, Design Manager

Kylie loves everything and anything music and puzzle-related. She is an 8th grader at Canyon Vista Middle School in Austin, Texas, and spends most of her time studying for school, coding, playing basketball, and making art. To her, art is anything beautiful and creative. She has won many awards through her piano skills and is on the A Team in her school’s basketball team. Her first discovery with Go was through her brother, who excelled at the game. Go captured her attention as it is not only a puzzle but a form of art.

Victoria Xie, Website Manager

Victoria Xie is a sophomore at The Pingry School in New Jersey. She has played Go for six years and is currently an AGA 1K player. She has participated in multiple Go Congresses and tournaments both online and around her area. Victoria leads her school’s Go Club and loves teaching people how to play Go. Outside of Go, she runs a tutoring organization and plays squash. Victoria also enjoys playing piano, listening to podcasts, and reading.

Steve Zhang, Head Tournament Director

Steve Zhang is a junior at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Oregon. He is currently rated 2D by the AGA. Steve has been playing Go from a young age. He has participated in many tournaments around the world, including Europe and Asia. Most recently, Steve placed 2nd in the 1 Dan division at the 2023 US Go Congress. Besides playing, Steve also enjoys volunteering in the Go community. Most notably, he served as a Tournament Director for AGHS last year and as the Assistant TD for the USGC Pair Go Tournament. Outside of Go, Steve enjoys going to the gym, listening to music, and playing Badminton.

Grace Chen, Tournament Director

Grace Chen is a sophomore at Merivale High School in Ottawa, Ontario. She has been learning Go for six years and is currently CGA 1D. She has volunteered in AGHS tournaments for several years. She won the junior division of the 2019 North American Kyu Championships and qualified for the 2020 IAPGC. Outside of Go, she enjoys baking, dancing, and listening to music.

Jake Kim, Tournament Director

Jake Kim is a sophomore at The Bishop’s School. Jake first learned Go in South Korea and played competitively when he was young. To continue his passion for Go and interacting with other Go players after moving to San Diego, Jake participates in events hosted by the San Diego Go Club. Also, to spread the joy that Go brings him, he started a project called “Go For A Better World” to help seniors fight dementia through Go. His idea later became a service club in his school after winning the 3rd Annual Bishop’s Social Innovation Competition. Besides playing Go, Jake enjoys playing golf and listening to hardcore K-rap.

Tony Yang, Tournament Director

Tony Yang is a sophomore at Chaparral High School in Temecula, CA. He started Go in 2016 and is currently rated AGA 7D. Tony placed 1st in both the 2022 and 2023 U.S. Go Congress in the Open Section. At the 39th U.S. Go Congress, Yang placed 2nd in the Senior Division of the Redmond Cup. Additionally, Yang took 3rd place in the 38th World Youth Go Championship. Tony co-founded his high school’s Go Club and has taught Go at his local Chinese School and teaches at the San Diego Go Club every Tuesday. Besides Go, Tony is passionate about math and programming and enjoys playing tennis and piano.
