The AGHS Go Academy

The AGHS is excited to announce the introduction of one of our newest programs, The AGHS Go Academy!
What it is: The AGHS Go Academy is a free 10-week introductory program designed for beginners. High-dan AGHS officers will guide participants through the fundamentals of Go, providing structured lessons and hands-on practice.
Where: Online via Zoom
Eligibility: Anyone under the age of 18 residing in North America, where members of the AGHS will be giving free lessons each week, covering a variety of Go topics. We have a beginner and intermediate course, so whether you’re a newcomer or a veteran, we encourage you to check it out.
We hope you enjoy these events. Grab a friend if you can, and invite them to participate with you. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

Spring Weekly Go Problems 2026

AGHS is kicking off the new season with our Spring Weekly Go Problems. The season will continue for 10 weeks, and each week, participants can solve one of five Go problems at their chosen difficulty level. The problems are designed for players of all ranks, ranging from 15K to 4D, so everyone is welcome to join!
If you’re interested in participating, fill out this form by March 15th, 2026, before 11:59 PM PST.

AGHS 2026 School Team Tournament

The AGHS will be hosting our 2026 School Team Tournament. All North American players under the age of 19 will be eligible, but must form a team of three (with one substitute player) to participate. The tournament will be split up into four rounds, with two taking place on consecutive Sundays. Please take a look at the rules & regulations document for further details.

AGHS Championship Finals

Come spectate and support the AGHS Championship Finals!
The championship match will feature Evan Tan (6d) and Chase Lin (5d), two outstanding players who have demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
The match will be broadcasted live on Twitch and professionally commentated by AGA 2P Michael Chen, alongside AGHS Tournament Director AGA 5d Zixuan Gao.
We encourage all students, families, and supporters of AGHS to tune in and show their support for our finalists. You may access the livestream using the QR code in the attached poster or by visiting Michael Chen’s Twitch channel: twitch.tv/zchenmike.

Youth-Adult Rengo Tournament (Passed)

The American Go Honor Society (AGHS) is launching its first-ever Youth-Adult Rengo Tournament to bring Go players together in the spirit of both competition and community.
The competition is open to all levels of players from Canada, Mexico, and the US. The competition will consist of teams of paired players. Each pair will include one youth player (under the age of 18) and one adult player, who will compete over the course of two rounds.

AGHS Social Media Video Contest (Passed)

The American Go Honor Society (AGHS) is excited to announce its first-ever Social Media Video Contest! As a participant in AGHS’s Social Media Video Contest, you will be asked to create an educational video in the format of an Instagram reel that promotes the game of Go.

Young Lions Tournament (Passed)

The American Go Honor Society (AGHS) is excited to resume its annual Young Lions tournament on Nov. 16 and Nov. 23, 2025. All players aged 18 and under, currently residing in North America, are eligible to participate. The four rounds of games will be held on KGS, with two games each on Sundays, November 16 and November 23. The games will be held at 12 pm EST (9 am PT) and 2 pm EST (11 am PT) on those dates.

NA – UK Youth Go Tournament (Passed)

The American Go Honor Society (AGHS) is excited to announce our first NA-UK Youth tournament.
Players under the age of 18 and residing in North America or the United Kingdom are eligible to participate. There will be four matches in total, spread across the two days. They will be held on KGS.
Time settings will be 45 minutes of main time followed by five periods of 30-second byo-yomi. AGA rules will be used.
A Go professional will be holding a virtual interactive game review workshop via Zoom after the final round, featuring top game reviews and an opportunity to engage with fellow players.

AGHS Applications Open (Passed)

The AGHS seeks motivated and talented high schoolers who share its mission of spreading and popularizing Go among youth in the English-speaking world. Open positions include two media marketing managers (either design- or writing-focused), a treasurer, a vice-president, and three tournament directors.
This year, the AGHS Executive Board will nominate officers-elect from the pool of applicants. The officers-elect will have the opportunity to vote amongst themselves for positions at the first general AGHS meeting.

The American Go Honor Society (AGHS) is excited to announce that registration for its annual School Team Tournament is open.
Players who are under the age of 19 and reside in North America may participate. Because this is a team tournament, a team is only eligible if all of its students come from the same school or institution. Each team will be composed of three players, with one substitute if desired.

AGHS Championship Tournament Qualifier (Passed)

The American Go Honor Society (AGHS) is excited to announce its new Championship Tournament. The qualifier for this tournament will take place on Sundays, January 19th and January 26th. All players under the age of 19 and residing in North America are eligible to participate. The top 32 players in the qualifier tournament (decided based on rank and registration date) will compete for 8 spots in the Championship, which will be held in February.

Blitz Tournament (Passed)

The American Go Honor Society (AGHS) is excited to announce the return of its annual Blitz tournament. Designed to provide players with an opportunity to play games under a quick time setting, this tournament will consist of 5 rounds of fast play. All players aged 18 and under, currently residing in North America, are eligible to participate. The five rounds of games will be held on KGS on December 15 at 1 pm EST, 1:30 pm EST, 2 pm EST, 2:30 pm EST, and 3 pm EST.

The AGHS is a youth-led organization that serves to promote Go by creating tournaments for youth players to compete in.
