The Go Legend Jumpstarts International Opportunities for Youth Players

The American Go Honor Society (AGHS) is excited to announce the GO Get Friends friendly tournament organized by the 傳碁學園 Go Legend, a Go school based in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong. The players of the AGHS team include Alex Fan-Cui 2d, Daniel Luo 1k and Kyle Lam 10K against the Go Legend’s Yichen Chen 1D, Yifu Wang 1D and Michael Law 10K. All games are played on the Online Go Server (OGS) and broadcast on the Go Legend’s youtube channel.

Yesterday, November 5th, Kyle Lam played against Michael Law in Match 1 of the GO Get Friends tournament. Law took black and played a solid opening, occupying three corners. In the mid-game, black struggled in the fight leading white to seize the lead. However, black managed to live in the upper right and win the game by 19.5 points — a huge lead.

“This game offers a lot of back and forth,” said Kevin Yang, who became the newest American professional Go player last July. “After the fight, white was ahead by twenty points. Then, black lived on the right, which was really surprising.”

Jenny Li, President of the AGHS, would like to thank the San Diego Go Club for recommending the Go Legend and for the generous support of the Go Legend.

“I treasure this opportunity to have our players compete internationally,” Li said. “Thank you, Go Legend, for organizing this tournament and reaching out to us. I hope our representation can bring something valuable as well.”

The AGHS hopes to continue collaborating with the Go Legend and offer more international opportunities for American youth players. This goal would include resuming the challenger series from the previous year, where winners from the AGHS youth league are selected to compete with an international Go club.

Finally, the AGHS wishes all the best to the American and Hong Kong youth players competing in the GO Get Friends tournament.
